Goodwood Festival of Speed 2010 was the second year for myself and Wurmsers to be working on the event. The annual event, held on Lord March's estate is now the world's largest car event.

In 2009 and continuing in 2010 Wurmsers were asked to design and supply the on-screen graphics for the big screens, all seven of them, as well as the 110 plasma screens around the site, catering for the 176,000 ethusiastic visitors.

The design was developed by a close working relationship between the events management team and myself. It had to reflect the long standing Goodwood brand whilst being able to cater for the big screen and TV audiences. The design centered around the Goodwood colours of black and white, coupled with light streaks and smoke to create a sense of energy whilst relating back to the theme of the whole event.

The main 'open to the public' Goodwood Festival of Speed event lasts 3 days in late June/ early July. During these days the big screen graphics aim to inform the viewers of a constantly updating timetable of the day, interview name supers, car name supers and timing graphics for the cars attemping the famous Hillclimb against the clock and each other. These can then be reviewed in a fullpage results graphics before the best timed cars compete in the Hillclimb 'shootout'. At the top of the hill the forest rally stage can also be found where every day the historic and modern day rally cars are timed around the course. In both years I have been on site for the 3 day event, operating graphics for the 10 hour days in both Hillclimb and Rally locations.

I also designed other elements required for the event these included a location map, break bumpers and a Goodwood branded replay wipe.

As well as big screen audience for Goodwood Festival of Speed visitors, those who coulnd't make the event could catch up with all the action with the ITV highlight shows - where you can also catch the graphics again. In 2010 Sky Sports joined the fun of the festival by coverage the shootout finale - 1 hour live show, which again included the Goodwood graphics. The Sky Sports show also used a third Wurmsers operator and Sky's own HD graphics package for presentation purposes which I was responsible to make sure that; firstly the graphics worked without problems on the Wurmsers systems - consulting with the designers at Sky and secondly the operator understood how the graphics worked and were used correctly.

After two successful events, with positive feedback the event is set to return in 2011 along with the graphics package making a return appearance.
