On the 5th April 2011 Eurosport lunched its new look across it's global network of channels.

"We believed the time was right to modernise and energise our brand to reflect our position as the leading provider of live sports in Europe, as well as our continued expansion as an international media group."
Laurent-Eric Le Lay, Eurosport Group Chairman & CEO

This meant rolling the look across all live sports, including the British Superbikes which Wurmsers have been involved with for many years.

I only had a short time frame to generate the graphics in VizRT, our graphics render engine. I decided it would be beneficial to replicate the graphics style entirely inside Viz Artist without using any external elements, such as video clips, to enhance the performance. This meant creating the 3D elements from within Viz itself and time matching the animations from reference footage we had been given.

Most of the reference material I had been given for the graphics was very generic and was not specifically designed for motor racing. This meant creating new designs specifically for the sport that had to be signed off by the Eurosport staff.

I added a few new features to the graphics package; there was an increased use of datapool throughout the graphics package. These included calculations to keep graphics such as name straps as big as they need to be, to stop distraction or covering of on-screen action.

I created a new grid developed in 3D space which creates a sense of immersion, helping the viewer better understand the construction of the grid.

I also re-developed many of the presentation graphics, including new functionality using Transition Logic to enable the graphics operator to have greater flexibility from animating from one graphic to another. This not only makes animations between graphics more fluid helping both the presenter and production, but it also looks better.

The 2011 British Superbike series covers 12 rounds at circuits around the UK and comes to its conclusion on 9th October 2011. It is broadcast both on Eurosport with highlights on ITV 4.
